Update on Cyberattack at Regional Hospitals
Cybercriminal group Daixin claims attack
Each hospital has been impacted differently by this cyberattack. Here’s a summary of what was taken from each hospital:
Bluewater Health: A database report was stolen. This database contains information about 5.6 million visits from approximately 267,000 different patients. Fortunately, this report did not include any clinical records, and the affected individuals will be notified.
Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA): The Electronic Health Records were not affected at CKHA. However, a database report containing data of 1,446 individuals employed by CKHA as of February 2, 2021, was taken.
Erie Shores HealthCare: The Electronic Health Records were not impacted, but data that includes approximately 352 employee Social Insurance Numbers (SIN) were taken.
Windsor Regional Hospital: A limited portion of shared data was accessed, but no employee or professional staff Social Insurance Numbers or banking information was taken.
Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare: Similar to Windsor Regional Hospital, Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare had a limited portion of shared data accessed, with no employee or professional staff Social Insurance Numbers or banking information taken.
In response to the cyberattack, all impacted hospitals are taking measures to support their staff and ensure data security. They are providing free credit monitoring for two years to all staff members and encouraging them to sign up for this service to protect themselves from potential identity theft or financial fraud.
